The tradition of the San Silvestre races dates back to 1925 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, when journalist Cásper Líbero, inspired by a night race in France, decided to organize a similar event. The idea was to celebrate the end of the year with a sporting event that promoted health and camaraderie among participants. Since then, the concept has spread globally, being adopted by numerous cities around the world, each with their own versions of the race.
