The Islamic State (IS), also known as ISIS by its acronym in English, has been a persistent threat to global security since its rise in 2014. Despite having lost much of its territory in Syria and Iraq to military operations led by the United States and its allies, IS cells and sympathizers continue to operate in various parts of the world, including Europe.
